Advertisement heading for record revenue in Brazilian internet
Nearly 70 million internet users by the end of 2009
São Paulo - According to the Brazilian IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) association, the outlook is good for operations in the Brazilian internet market. It expects advertising revenues of approximately BRL 1 billion (about USD 435 million) in this media for 2009, which would be 30% more than last year, when sales went up 44%. IAB estimates that in 2009 the internet will represent a record share of 4.2% of the total advertising investment. Today it is already the second most important media in Brazil, says Guilherme Ribenboim, general manager of Yahoo! Brazil and Latin America and President of IAB. According to him, the Brazilian internet users are the ones in Latin America who use the web most, virtually in all situations of daily life. Brazilians are world champions in internet surfing, with 24 hours and 48 minutes per month, followed by the British (24h37min), the French (24h35min) and the Spanish (24h06min).
Brazil has now 62.3 million internet users. Especially those from the C-class are becoming increasingly important, but also the classes D and E are growing. 39% of the C-class had access to the Internet and by the end of 2009, one of two consumers in this segment will be connected to the web very soon. In 2008, about 12 million computers were sold, almost 50% more than the number of TV sets. By the end of 2009 there will be an estimated 68.5 million internet users in Latin America's biggest economy, a plus of 10% compared to 2008, and 87% of the homes with internet will have broadband access. This shows the quick progress of the digitization process in the Brazilian society, with business opportunities also for Danish companies of the IT sector.
